A Ruskin interior is a work of craftsmanship. Since each project is unique, we draw and cut every single component by hand. Our machinists sew the soft leather sections together, piece by piece, to create covers that we then stretch and fit by hand over layers of cushioning and supportive foam.
You don’t need anyone to tell you that your finished vehicle has Ruskin Inside® – you can see it in the quality of the materials, the sumptuous fit, the faultless finish, and in your neighbour’s wide-eyed look of envy.
Your Ruskin interior starts with you – what you want to do with your vehicle and how you’d like it to feel when you’re inside. We can create something entirely new or adapt past designs to your needs using fresh colours and original detailing.
We talk designs and ideas through with you before developing a design concept and, if appropriate, sending over leather sample swatches. When you’re happy that we’ve developed the right look for your vehicle, we’re good to go.
Most clients choose leather trim for its softness, strength, and long-lasting comfort. The choice of qualities and finishes is huge, from hard-wearing auto grain to the softest luxury nappa leather.
Subtle variations in colour and grain remind you that leather is a natural material. The lack of factory-made uniformity is intrinsic to its beauty. Our job is to select the finest hides for your trim, and to cut each piece by hand for a perfect fit and the smartest of looks.
No two leather hides are quite the same. Hand-cutting is essential because only a skilled leather worker has the eye and the experience to know whether to cut any given piece slightly larger or smaller. It all depends on the ‘give’ – the ability of a particular hide to stretch for the tightest fit.
The starting point is our vast library of templates, each of which has been cut by hand to match a single item of detail in the numerous vehicle types we’ve upholstered. We’re a bit like a traditional cobbler who keeps a last for every foot they’ve ever shod.
Our machinists are a class apart. They know exactly how your finished trim should look and fit. They rarely refer to a drawing: years of experience have taught them how to sew a series of two-dimensional leather components into, for example, into a seat back that moulds faultlessly to the folds and curves of a three-dimensional car seat. Their feel for a vehicle interior is instinctive.
Everything comes together when we fit the sewn leather components to your vehicle. Our fitting team know the quirks of the marques we trim – especially those of the Land Rover Defender. They know where to add more or less foam padding for the snuggest of fits.
Finally, they stretch and tighten the leather to round every sharp edge into a gentle curve. They turn a hard and angular metallic interior into a cushioned masterpiece of comfort. To step inside feels like coming home.
It doesn’t take long. Just give us a few details about you, your vehicle, and what you use it for. Let’s get talking.
