Land Rover Defender Gets Iconic Fashion Brand Refit
- High-end fashion house donates jeans
- Unique handcrafted interior
- 100% British made
A Leicestershire company that specialises in bespoke handcrafted interiors for Land Rover Defenders has just completed one of its most exciting projects to date, with help from a leading international fashion house.
Wigston-based Ruskin Design Limited was commissioned by Land Rover Defender enthusiast Colin Naylor to transform the interior of his Single Cab Defender 90 and create a bespoke interior incorporating Diesel jeans, which were donated by Diesel London after hearing about the project.
The design, which took one month to complete, was the brainchild of Ruskin’s chief designer Paul Hames. By using nearly 30 pairs of the iconic jeans, together with vintage-look Napa leather to complement the bodywork, Ruskin’s team has translated Colin’s vision to produce a truly unique vehicle.
Every component of the re-upholstery has been hand-made at Ruskin Design’s workshop on Gloucester Crescent including seats, roof linings, door cards, dashboard and gear shift cover.
Steve Castledine, Managing Director, Ruskin Design Limited said: “Colin’s project is extremely exciting and has allowed us to demonstrate Ruskin Design’s creativity and craftsmanship.
“The contemporary design not only complements both the Land Rover Defender and Diesel brands but also demonstrates the stylish design, hand-made tailored luxury and outstanding workmanship that a ‘Ruskin Inside™’ is renowned for.
“Working closely with Colin, we’ve ensured that neither the ‘utilitarian’ nature of the truck or the essence of the iconic Diesel brand is compromised and we’re delighted with the finished vehicle
Colin Naylor said: “After meeting the Ruskin team I knew I had made the right choice for the project. Their creativity was clear from the onset and the passionate response to my ideas really encouraging. Ruskin has turned my vision into a stunning reality and I am absolutely delighted with it.
“They have taken a true artisan approach, investing many hours in preparation, understanding completely my desired aesthetic and brief but with their own substantial knowledge and experience, they have taken everything to the next level.
“It was important for me to realise the project utilising the skills and talent of a Midlands based company. With the history of this landmark vehicle firmly rooted in the Midlands, it made complete sense and added another layer of authenticity to the project.
“The design philosophy of Ruskin complements perfectly with the core values at the heart of Diesel fashion brand: combining an ageless quality in refinement whilst celebrating individuality and flair.”
To complete the contemporary look, the vehicle has also been fitted with state-of-the-art JL audio sound system together with Dynamat sound dampening, both supplied by market leaders in car audio accessories Celsus ICE.
